For ongoing St. John Ambulance First Aid and CPR courses held at the Victoria Park Armoury, new courses for all levels. call the office in Lindsay for times, dates and to register, at 324-9894.

St. John Ambulance in Lindsay is now offering training that meets workplace requirements for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It’s a ½ day program. Call 324-9894 to find out more.

The Canadian Red Cross in Lindsay is in need of donations of wool for their Winter Warmth Mitts For Kids program. Drop wool off at 37 Cambridge St. N in Lindsay or call 324-8960.

There are still openings for Canadian Red Cross First Aid courses in August, and Pleasure Craft Operators Testing on Tuesday and Thursdays. Call 324-8960

Women’s Resources provides shelter, support, and referral for abused women and their children in the City of Kawartha Lakes and surrounding area. All are services are free and confidential. Concerts in the Park this summer at the Gazebo in Victoria Park, Lindsay. These free concerts run throughout July and August, every Wednesday evening 7-9pm and Sunday afternoons 2-4pm with both new and returning bands for this year’s series. With the Clothesline® ‘Spring into Action’ here, the Canadian Diabetes Association needs your help to reach a goal of collecting 2 million kilograms of clothing across the country. Donors in the area can call Clothesline® at 1-800-505-5525 to schedule a free household pick-up; donate clothing and linens at any one of the programs red drop boxes nationwide or donate items by visiting their nearest Donation Centre or Attended Donation Station. All proceeds support diabetes research, education, service and advocacy.

August fun for kids at the Lindsay Library, Jest for the fun of it!!  For children age 4 – 7 years, Mondays Aug. 18 and 25 at 2pm.  Enjoy stories, activities and crafts.  Registration is not required. Tickle Your Funny Bone, for children up to age 3 years, Tuesdays at 10:30 August 19, and 26.  This program features stories, songs, puppets and crafts.  Registration is not required – drop in any Tuesday. Each week “Laugh Out Loud” Special Events on Wednesdays at 2 pm.  These programs require advance registration. Kids can improve their reading skills and make a new friend with “Read to the Dogs” on Saturday, August 23 from 10 till noon by reading aloud to St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog “Harley”.  Advance registration is required for a 15 minute reading session. And a different activity each week at the Super Duper Craft Club Thursdays Aug. 21, and 28 at 2pm.  Boys and girls aged 7 years and up should register in advance, as space is limited. A free public training clinic for C-P-R will be held Wed. Aug. 20 in Sturgeon Point. CPR and Automated External Defibrillators can make the difference between life and death. To register for the clinic, please call 705-328-1976

Blackstock Fair & Demolition Derby,  Fri. Aug. 22 at 7;30 pm (Demo derby) and a wide variety of events for all ages on Fair day Saturday August 23 - all events are free with the price of admission. To wrap up the day there will be an age of majority fair dance held at the Recreation Center, tickets available for $10.00.

The Learning Disabilities Association is hosting their first annual fundraiser/ yard sale. To take place Saturday August 23, from 7:00-1:00 in the Lindsay Monument parking lot, 206 Lindsay St South.

3rd Annual Antique Tractor Show and 2nd Annual Lawn Tractor Pull, Aug. 23rd at Bethany Park. Registration begins at 8:00 am and opening ceremonies at 1:00 pm. Events include Tractor Slow Race, Antique Tractor Barrel Race, Lawn Tractor Pull, Pancake breakfast at 8:00 am.

The Dodge Rodeo Tour 2008 is coming back to Valentia, for two performances (one each day) on Sat. and Sun. Aug. 23rd and 24th. Proceeds will support of the Valentia Equine Retraining Center for abused or unwanted horses.  The Lions club will host the rodeo dance on the Saturday night. It’s the 19th Annual Kawartha Arts Festival Labour Day weekend at the Fenelon Falls Fairgrounds.  August 30th, 10 till 6.  August 31st, 10 till 5.  Buy direct from over 100 artists.  Original paintings, ceramics, silversmith, tin ware, wood and stone carvings, jewellery, stained glass and more!  Admission by donation.  More info at www.kawarthaartsfestival.com

E-Waste Unplugged day is Tuesday, September 9, 11AM to 6PM, at the Canadian Tire Parking Lot, 377 Kent Street West, Lindsay. Items accepted for FREE recycling: computers, computer accessories (including mice, keyboards, cables), printers and fax machines, as well as small household appliances such as toasters, microwaves, telephones, etc (Note: no large items such as refrigerators, stoves, freezers, etc.)  Cell phones and ink cartridges will also be accepted in support of the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. Items accepted at a cost: monitors and TVs will be accepted at a $10.00 shipping cost.

The Peterborough Terry Fox Run for cancer research will take place Sun., Sept. 14th at Nicholl's Oval Park.  Registration will be open from 8 til noon, with an official start at 9am.  Local cancer survivors will be participating as part of Terry's Team.
