On Friday September 10th, Barry will host the first annual KL5K Run and One Mile Challenge at the Lindsay Fairgrounds. The goal is to raise money for the United Way of Kawartha Lakes and encourage physical activity for all ages. The KL5K will be a 5 km competitive foot-race on a measured course with chip timing. The One Mile Challenge, on the other hand, will be a fun event geared to two groups - elementary school kids running and adults walking one lap of the track.

The 13th Annual Heidi Golf Classic will be held September 10, at Lakeridge Links Golf Club in Brooklin. Funds raised through the event will support Leukemia Research at The Princess Margaret. This tournament is organized in memory of Heidi McIsaac who was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) in 1991. She battled the cancer for 12 years, but passed away from the disease in 2003 at Princess Margaret Hospital. Heidi worked tirelessly to raise funds and awareness for Leukemia Research and the Heidi Golf Classic Committee is proud to carry on her mission. It’s the first ever Bases for Life Mixed Slo-Pitch Tournament, being held in support of United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes. The tournament is being organized by Jordan Bress, a former board member of the non-profit. The 20-team tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 12 at Wilson Fields in Lindsay. The fee is $400 per team, with up to 12 people being allowed to register for each team. Five registered players must be women, and four women must be on the field.
