Bingo Bingo is currently looking for new charities to participate in their bingo sessions in Lindsay.  Interested charities need to contact Don Abel, City of Kawartha Lakes Licensing officer at 180 Kent St. W. to see if they are eligible. The Lindsay and District Red Cross needs wool donations for their Winter Warmth (Mitts for Kids) program. Over 4,00 pairs of mitts, toques and socks have been given to the Soup Kitchen, Women’s Resources, A Place Called Home, the Boy’s and Girls Club etc. Drop the wool by 37 Cambridge St. N, or call 324-8960.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library is presenting a series of workshops for young writers which encourage children 8 yrs and up to write and illustrate their own books. The Fenelon Falls Library workshops are scheduled for 6 pm every other Thursday. The Lindsay Library workshops are scheduled for Tuesdays at 4 pm for eight consecutive weeks commencing on February 21. The Bethany Library workshops will be held on Saturdays at 10 am for eight consecutive weeks commencing February 25. The popular “Read to the Dogs” program is coming to the Fenelon Falls Library soon.  Therapy dogs, child certified through the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program give children the opportunity to read aloud in a nonthreatening environment.  Reading aloud to dogs can increase enthusiasm for reading, develop reading skills, teach children how to interact with pets and promote confidence.  The “Read to the Dog” program will be held on Saturday mornings.  If you are interested please call the Fenelon Falls Library at 705 887-6300.

The Odyssey Project is hosting their 3rd annual benefit concert for Free the Children on Friday February 24th at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theatre.  Odyssey, as well as students from LCVI and I E Weldon combine forces in group choral numbers as well as a combined Jazz ensemble.  Special guest singer, songwriter, guitarist and Odyssey Project alumni James Barker will be performing.  Proceeds will support clean water projects for Free the Children. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for seniors and students, and are available at the Academy Theatre box office.

holding the first team captain’s rally of 2012 on Monday, March 5th at Loblaws, 400 Kent
